Paperhanging is the art of hanging wallpaper. This trade has been practiced masterfully by British paper hangers for centuries – you’ll see their work everywhere from stately homes with hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper, to contemporary small businesses with bespoke interiors.

Made from 1980s blanks, our Paper Hanger scissors will help professional and enthusiast paperhangers cut wallpaper clean and true.

The blades are long and straight, and they produce long, straight cuts to match. This is particularly important in paperhanging, where sections of wallpaper must be cut to perfectly fit the wall, and patterns on the wallpaper need to be matched accurately between sections of wallpaper. The blades of these scissors will lie flush on the surface of a trestle table – an essential attribute for paperhanging.

More than just a wallpaper scissor, the 12″ Paper Hanger can be used for all sorts of paper crafts, from collage to garland-making. The scissors’ precisely tensioned blades cut cleanly along their full length, without chewing or crumpling the paper.

Ernest Wright is revitalizing a 123-year legacy of making scissors and shears by hand. Ernest Wright blends traditional craftsmanship with vital innovation to restore the level of quality that was expected in times gone by. In their workshop, putters continue to apply their craft.

The Paperhangers are 12” and made from hot-drop-forged high-carbon steel (C50). We do not plate them; they are polished by hand before delivering them to you.

Each order will be handmade specially for you in Sheffield England and will dispatch with your wallpaper order in January/February 2026. If you are just ordering the scissors they will be a dispatched in February 2026.

Thorley & Petherick Paperhangers produced by Ernest Wright have a life time warranty on parts and materials only, excluding damage caused by the user. Ernest Wright scissors are warranted to be free of material and workmanship defects. The warranty lasts for the lifetime of the scissors and shears. The Ernest Wright lifetime warranty does not include lifetime sharpening.
